Circleville Elementary School.

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Principal, assist in providing basic support services to assist with the instructional program and to promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of students.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in providing supervision and support services for students in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, Operating Standards for Ohio Schools, and the provisions of State and Federal law.
  • Work with students in a low-incidence classroom.
  • Maintain organization, control of student behavior and discipline, and a positive learning environment, as assigned.
  • Assist in skill reinforcement and in small group instruction in accordance with lesson plans as provided.
  • Assist in the implementation of intervention strategies and of individualized education plans (IEPs) and/or other District-authorized accommodation plans.
  • Prepare, monitor, and assist with the implementation of student assessment measures.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive school-community relationships and timely communications.
  • Assist with field trips and other class-related activities.
  • Secure and prepare equipment and supplies for classroom use and return when finished.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and complete reports as required by law, District policy, and administrative guidelines.
  • Monitor and assist with student hygiene and safety practices.
  • Meet the professional expectations of attendance, suitable attire and decorum, participation in school and District meetings/functions, and support of District initiatives.
  • Respond to specific requests from the Principal/teacher on matters affecting the program and operation of the District.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
  • Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Able to access classroom, office, and appropriate areas of school and District property and facilities.

Able to safely and appropriately lift and manage preschool and special needs children when necessary.

Qualifications Profile

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Educational aide permit, ESSA qualified, must be willing to obtain.

  • High School/Trade School degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
