Job Purpose and Summary

At CVS Health, we help people navigate the health care system by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for all moments of health. In our retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians support our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds expectations.

Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through consistent application of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication. They demonstrate genuine care, contribute to a safe and inclusive culture, and uphold higher standards of patient safety and privacy.

Technicians must complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until required certifications are obtained, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Provide positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations, and resolving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team by embracing a growth mindset, seeking feedback, and expanding clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to stores in the market.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, off‑site clinics) when authorized by law and trained.
Immunization Support (optional)
  • Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educate patients on vaccine importance and refer to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty for questions.
  • Monitor and respond to adverse reactions, reporting per public health requirements.
  • Review, collect, and document patient information for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing pharmacy practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification. If no minimum age is mandated, must be at least 16 years old. If no minimum education is mandated, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Demonstrate attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy.
  • Show customer service and team orientation: help people, respond to patient reactions.
  • Use and understand verbal and written communication; employ active listening.
  • Apply mathematical reasoning: calculate tablet counts and dispense quantities.
  • Resolve problems by selecting the best course of action when faced with multiple options.
  • Meet physical demands of the job, including mobility, lifting up to 20 lbs, reaching, and fine‑motor tasks.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work throughout the market at other locations as needed.
