Carmichael, Sleep Clinic
The incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic goodwill for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. This position performs a variety of duties, providing front office support for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned.

Minimum Qualifications- High School / GED equivalent or related work experience
- Experience with practices and protocols related to medical office and/or health care scheduling or insurance procedures (e.g., medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing, etc.)
- Ability to accomplish a variety of concurrent assignments efficiently, demonstrating organization, prioritization, and completion within designated time frames.
- Problem‑solving skills: independently define problems, identify resources, create viable solutions, and implement actions for satisfactory resolution.
- Decision‑making skills: independently exercise delegated authority and seek assistance when limits are reached.
- Interpersonal skills: establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and patients, handling angry or upset individuals with patience, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Computer literacy: proficient use of electronic mail, spreadsheets, word processing, and medical office management systems; typing skills sufficient for timely, accurate input.
- Writing skills: proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation for clear, concise, understandable messages and routine correspondence.
- Bookkeeping skills: maintain accurate patient financial records, prepare related reports, balance cash, and prepare deposits.
- Organizing skills: establish priorities, respond flexibly to changes, and maintain effectiveness in a high‑volume, interrupt‑heavy environment.
- Filing skills: maintain logs/files in alphabetical, chronological, or numerical order; knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records, confidentiality, privacy, and HIPAA.
- In‑depth knowledge of health care insurance systems (Medi‑Cal, Medi Care, HMO, PPO, fee‑for‑service, county funded coverage, worker’s compensation) for authorizations, appointments, referrals, billing, and patient education.
- Knowledge of ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines for accurate identification of services performed.
- Knowledge and experience of medical office procedures: medical terminology, appointments, records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing, etc.
- Three (3) years of customer service experience and/or call center experience
- Recent experience with EMR (e.g., EPIC) including In Basket and Work Queues
- Training or recent experience in billing, authorizations, referrals, medical terminology, and comprehensive insurance plans and products
- Recent experience in outpatient medical office
- Experience in front office at a clinic, physician office, or health insurance company processing referrals or authorizations for patient services, including scheduling and ordering records to support diagnosis or medical necessity
- Previous experience in the specialty of the hiring outpatient clinic
- Demonstrated knowledge of Health System and UCD policies and procedures, or ability to learn quickly
- Comprehension of University requisition systems, including those for ordering supplies and medical records
- 50% – Coordination of Medical Office Services

The Sleep Clinic provides patient care to the patient population requiring sleep disorder care and treatment.
Department Specific Job ScopeWill primarily work at the Carmichael Sleep Clinic and will assist with Durable Medical Equipment authorizations/referrals, as well as auxiliary authorizations/referrals.
