Chief Development Officer

American Red Cross of Idaho & East Oregon (Boise & Pleasant Valley) is seeking a dynamic, visionary, Treasure Valley-based Chief Development Officer to lead the fundraising and donor engagement strategy for the American Red Cross of Idaho, Montana and East Oregon — an expansive region where every gift gives help and hope when it's needed most. As a key member of our regional leadership team, you will design and drive a bold, integrated philanthropy program that powers disaster response, supports our service members and veterans, sustains lifesaving blood collection and equips thousands of neighbors with skills to prepare for emergencies every year.

Make a lasting impact. Lead with purpose.

In this role, the Regional Chief Development Officer (RCDO) will be responsible for strengthening and growing the donor base and the development program to meet assigned financial goals. You will drive a strong revenue-oriented culture based on market-driven targets. You will oversee a Regional Philanthropy Officer and collaborate closely with the Regional CEO, the Montana Executive Director and the two chapter Boards of Directors to plan, manage and execute comprehensive fund development strategies.

You will also maintain a portfolio of major donors and prospects and personally lead solicitation efforts.

  • Design and execute multi-year fundraising strategies to grow annual revenue and build a sustainable donor base.
  • Team & Volunteer Leadership:
Guide and mentor Philanthropy Officer(s) and engage leadership volunteers to implement effective fundraising strategies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the Board's Philanthropy Committee, supporting members in their fundraising roles.
  • Oversee implementation of organizational campaigns in the region. Act as a senior leader in the Region and direct the Regional Development team with respect to strategic decisions for the organization; ensure that the Region meets all reporting requirements related to fundraising.
  • Accountable for achieving or exceeding Region's minimum fundraising target, and managing to meet the fundraising expense target. Revenue target may increase due to major domestic disasters.
  • Cultivate relationships and serve as the primary staff liaison for representatives of large corporations and foundations for solicitation and stewardship purposes. Collaborate with national headquarters development and donor recruitment staff to identify and maximize fundraising opportunities. Orient new Board members to their fundraising responsibilities and ensure they receive the necessary support to be successful volunteer fundraisers.
  • Major Gifts & Donor Engagement:
Personally manage a portfolio of high-capacity donors, leading face-to-face solicitations and stewardship.

Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.

This position follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring 2–3 days per week in the office, including field work in Boise and Pleasant Valley.

This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.

This position may be eligible for relocation.

  • Minimum 7 years of fundraising leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Experience with increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies, developing and implementing broad-based fundraising programs, and knowledge of "best practices" in development.
  • Five years of management experience.
  • A current valid driver's license and a good driving record is required.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning abilities. Proficiency in MS Office and fundraising CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
