Location & Unit5 South, Medical Progressive Care Unit – 28 beds that provide high‑level cardiac monitoring and integrated care for patients with respiratory failure, heart failure, and those requiring bi‑pap, chest tubes, or titratable IV drips.
Job SummaryRegistered Nurse responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individual patients or families. The RN is accountable for the quality of care delivered and complies with hospital policies, physician orders, and patient/family needs.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide leadership and serve as a role model for the interdisciplinary team.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and manage charge duties, including staff lunches.
- Maintain a safe environment by considering patient condition, intervention complexity, and outcome predictability.
- Offer verbal and written feedback to peers on clinical practice and performance.
- Share knowledge, skills, and best practices with colleagues.
- Accept and learn from mistakes to foster a culture of safe risk‑taking.
- Participate in departmental quality and patient safety initiatives (e.g., National Patient Safety Goals, evidence‑based practice).
- Supervise and evaluate LPN scope of practice as applicable.
- Use the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement patient care plans based on physician orders and hospital policy.
- Derive culturally and age‑appropriate outcomes involving patients, families, and other health‑care providers.
- Analyze patient health status, compare data with norms, and determine care needs.
- Notify physicians or supervisors of any changes in patient condition and intervene appropriately, documenting all actions.
- Accept assignments in other units and perform duties within individual competency.
- Commit to continuous lifelong learning and professional development.
- Participate in professional organizations and advance the nursing profession.
- Engage in systematic peer review and obtain feedback from patients, peers, and colleagues.
- Adhere to time‑and‑attendance guidelines and hospital policies.
- Assess patient and family satisfaction and support departmental satisfaction initiatives.
- Promote compassionate, patient‑centered communication and resolve concerns.
- Manage time effectively to complete all duties during the work shift.
- Mandatory background clearance certificates (Act 34, Act 33, Act 73).
- Current state of Pennsylvania RN license or multi‑state licensure via the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- CPR certification.
- Certification in a nursing specialty.
