JOB DESCRIPTION – FAMILY SELF SUFFICIENCY CASE AIDE

Hours of Work

Not to exceed 40 hours per week. Flexible scheduling assigned by DHR to meet case needs which may include evenings and weekends, otherwise normal operating hours of DHR. A workweek begins on Saturday at 12:01 AM and ends on Friday edules involving weekend or evening work must flex the time within the same week, otherwise normal operating hours of County DHR.

Overtime is never allowed.

Hourly rate.

Reports To

Field Support Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Computer skills including Word and Excel.
  • 21 years of age.
  • Attend 7 hours of pre‑service training and a minimum of 6 hours annual in‑service training.
  • FBI, ABI, and Child (CAN) Central Registry Clearance.
  • Reliable automobile, valid Alabama Driver’s License, proof of required automobile liability insurance (100,000/300,000/50,000 limits).
  • MVR prior to employment to verify good driving record.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding clients, coworkers, etc.
  • Good attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work independently as needed.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, case workers, people representing businesses, civic or religious organizations and others in the office and community.
  • Communicate effectively in receiving and sharing important information.
  • Follow office rules and procedures.
  • Abide by HIPAA Privacy and Confidentiality Policy.
  • Report adult or child abuse or neglect and participate in any investigation of compliance, including allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Must not be related to family or closely acquainted with the family or client for whom services are being provided.
  • Practice Universal Infection Control and follow safety guidelines when transporting, such as seat belt and/or appropriate safety restraints for self and passengers.
  • Complete a probationary period.
Summary of Position

The Family Self Sufficiency Case Aide will provide support services under the direction of Department staff to TANF recipients to assist in overcoming barriers that impede progress toward self‑sufficiency. In addition, provide support to professional case management staff and augment the efforts of the JOBS and/or Public Assistance (PA) staff in assisting eligible individuals to overcome barriers to employment, to increase their marketable skills and employability, to gain or retain employment and to transition from welfare to work.

FSS Case Aide Activities
  • Monitor component participation and school attendance.
  • Assist professional staff with group interviews by assisting with explanations, helping clients complete forms, and distributing pamphlets or forms.
  • Answer general questions regarding basic eligibility or work participation requirements after proper orientation.
  • Assist workers in the verification process by gathering information from employers and by contacting references after proper orientation.
  • Assist recipients in completing forms and other documents.
  • Help clients develop resumes.
  • Provide services for initial and/or ongoing component placement support (e.g., assist the participant in collaboration with the JOBS case manager in accessing child care, transportation, appropriate clothing or any other needed supportive services).
  • Provide follow‑up to employed clients to evaluate need for SEA services.
  • Assist staff in working with community entities (e.g., meet with area business, civic and religious groups to develop CEMP sites), make on‑site visits and follow‑up contacts.
  • Develop Family Coaches Program by recruiting coaches and players.
  • Work with employers to develop employment opportunities for participants as directed by JOBS staff.
  • Provide transportation for clients for job search or other component related activities.
  • Assist clients with purchasing of clothing and supplies for a new job, job search or other component participation.
  • Help clients locate and access community resources through referrals, phone calls, letters or personal contact.
