**** PRIMARY PURPOSE/

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

** Reporting to the Director of Career Planning & Resources, the Temporary Career Counselor provides career counseling services for students and alums at Scripps College. The College is hiring for two Temporary Career Counselor positions.

* ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

** This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.  The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position.  Perform other duties as assigned.
** Career Counseling
*** Provide individual and group career counseling to students and alums including, but not limited to, career decision making, graduate school and gap year research, personal statement review, resume and cover letter critique, job and internship search strategies, mock interviews, networking strategies, finding international opportunities, mid-career transitions, and salary negotiation.
* Administer and interpret standardized assessment instruments such as Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Clifton Strengths.
* Support students and alumnae seeking graduate school and gap year opportunities
* Provide coverage for counseling appointments during drop-in hours.
* Assist in collection of student engagement and outcomes data.
* Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.
** REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES****:
** Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
* Experience working with multiple technology platforms.
* Candidate should possess a commitment to women’s education and an interest in working in a collaborative and creative environment that empowers students and alums to fulfill their potential.

* EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

** Bachelor’s degree in counseling, student development, higher education, or related field preferred, or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job. Master’s degree in related field is preferred.
** LICENSES / CERTIFICATES:
** None.

**** HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
** This is a temporary status, part-time (no more than 16 hours per week), non-benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.

This position is expected to end on or before May 15, 2026, and may be extended based upon mutual agreement by both parties.

The regular hours for this position will be determined by mutual agreement based on the candidate’s availability and the needs of the department. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and the schedule will be set within these time frames. Hours may vary based on the needs of the College or department.

Hourly rate range: $28.00-$30.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
