The Primary Responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty Member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors to teach the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI):

ENG 5160 Introduction to Bioprocessing – Fall semester, 1.5 credits.

Bioprocessing is the application of biological systems and organisms by bioengineers and scientists to achieve research, industrial, and healthcare objectives. Within the healthcare industry, bioprocessing plays a critical role in translating life science discoveries into viable healthcare treatments and driving advancements in biopharmaceuticals, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies. This course provides a foundational understanding of biotechnology, with a particular focus on the biopharmaceutical industry, and introduces the operations and principles employed by bioprocess engineers.

Students will explore the scientific, business, and practical aspects of biomanufacturing, gain insights into the biomanufacturing landscape, and develop the skills necessary to contribute to the successful development and commercialization of biopharmaceuticals.

The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Henry

E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of the Henry

E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.

A minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred. A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Prior experience in teaching for active learning is preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.

• Evaluates student performance (e.g., written assignments, examinations, in-class activities).
• Provides remedial instruction as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

This is a part-time, exempt, adjunct faculty position and is not eligible for benefits. Schedules will vary depending on course assignments and the needs of the department or the Institute. The base salary range for this position is $2,500 - $15,000 per semester, depending on credits per course.

Ability to maintain a good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Requires sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time, standing for extended periods, reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction, finger dexterity for manipulating objects with fingers.

Communication skills using spoken word. Ability to see and hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop for filing. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 lbs. Ability to travel locally as needed to meet business requirements, which may include driving or other modes of transportation. Occasionally required to stand for prolonged periods at activities/events on and off-campus.
