Interim Catholic Chaplain:
The Claremont Colleges Services

The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Working independently, the Interim Catholic Chaplain is part of the Interfaith Chaplaincy of The Claremont Colleges and serves the Catholic campus community through outreach, worship opportunities, pastoral counseling, community building, and facilitation of other programs, services, and events. This role will provide outreach and support to the ethnically and culturally diverse constituency of The Claremont Colleges community. As part of the egalitarian Chaplaincy team, the Interim Catholic Chaplain will model mutual respect for diverse faith communities and assist with orientation trainings, collaborative programs, and other Chaplaincy events for the seven Claremont Colleges.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Catholic Community Support

• Provide leadership and facilitation weekly Mass and holiday observances (during the school calendar).

• Engage students with formal and informal Catholic education, weekly meetings, cultural events, guest speakers, and relevant programs for building Catholic community and educating the campus about Catholicism.

• Initiate and maintain outreach and support to the diverse Catholic community at The Claremont Colleges.

• Provide guidance to registered Catholic student clubs and groups of The Claremont Colleges

• Serve as an advocate for Catholic students throughout The Claremont Colleges community.

• Provide pastoral counseling for Catholic students whenever needed.

• Meet regularly, collaborate, and supervise Catholic religious affiliates of the McAlister Center.

• Establish connections between students and local and regional Catholic communities.

Interfaith and Consortium Support

• Plan and participate in and celebrate interfaith and multi-faith engagement, including interreligious programs, community services, and social justice outreach.

• Support other religious communities as needed; currently the Catholic Chaplain also supports the Baha'i community

• Assist and support students, faculty, and staff during crises.

• Participate in campus celebrations such as convocations, commencement, and baccalaureate.

• Provide engaging training for residence hall staff, student peer mentors, and participate in invited classroom and seminar presentations

• Collaborate with other chaplains, students, staff, faculty, advisory groups, and others to develop and implement meaningful programs and services from the Chaplaincy.

• Assist with the administration of the Chaplaincy

• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with diverse individuals at all levels across the consortium.

• Proactively seek input from stakeholders regarding the services provided. Work with the chaplains and other staff to consistently improve the quality and types of services.

• Conduct assessment on the impact of programs and resources and complete follow-through to revise and create new plans and programs accordingly. Develop and routinely report metrics that inform program effectiveness.

• Collaborate with the Deans of Students, academic support services, and other student-facing office of the entire Claremont Colleges consortium on related programming and events.

• Attend weekly staff meetings, participate on TCCS and consortium-wide committees.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.
