JOB PURPOSEPomona College seeks a dynamic professional staff member who is eager to develop their knowledge in the field of admissions and enthusiastic to contribute to the operations of a highly collegial and driven admissions team during reading season. The Temporary Admissions officer plays a key role in the evaluation and selection of domestic applicants for the College’s entering first-year and transfer classes, as well as the summer high school program PAYS (Pomona College Academy for Youth Success).
This position will assist with admissions programming on campus and may also be asked to conduct local recruitment travel on behalf of the College.
- Holistically review first-year and transfer applications using the Pomona College Office of Admissions criteria.
- Evaluate academic records across curricula and contexts.
- Assess non-academic components within geographic and educational context.
- Prepare concise written evaluations and present cases in committee.
- Apply policies consistently, meet deadlines, and uphold confidentiality.
- Assist with planning and programming for Transfer Open House.
- Assist with planning and programming for Admitted Students Day.
- Provide support for daily visit operations for the Office of Admissions, which may include greeting visitors, presenting information sessions, and answering questions as the Officer of the Day (OD).
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
Experience:
A minimum of 1 year of experience working with high school students and counselors is preferred, but not required. The ability to speak a language other than English is also preferred, but not required. Experience at a liberal arts and sciences college is preferred.
