POSITION SUMMARYRogers State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Social Science with a specialty in Sociology to begin in August of 2026. Candidates are expected to teach a variety of core and elective classes in the Department of Psychology and Sociology, including courses in Sociology and Social and Behavioral Science. In addition to courses within their specialty, the candidates must have the ability to teach a variety of Social Science research methods courses (including statistics and quantitative and/or qualitative research design), both on ground and online.
The ideal candidate should also maintain an active research agenda and work to incorporate research into the classroom. Candidates will mentor undergraduate students. The position requires a commitment to teaching excellence and service to students and the University. A PhD in Sociology or a closely related discipline is required.
- Maintain assigned teaching load (12 credit hours per semester) in accordance with established faculty requirements and responsibilities.
- Develop curriculum and teach online within undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Provide active academic interaction with students on a weekly basis through posted instructor guidance and assignment feedback.
- Provide student support via email, Blackboard LMS, and phone as needed.
- Grade and post student work while providing constructive feedback to help students achieve academic success.
- Foster a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to actively engage in the learning process.
- Establish collegiate relationships with peers and collaborate with them to enhance the instructional environment and scholarship of the department.
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others.
- Play an active role in University and department service and committee work.
- Stay informed of current trends and new information in the field and in new approaches to instruction.
- Attend departmental and university meetings.
- Maintain an active research agenda and make efforts to publish and present in relevant academic venues.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Experience in classroom based and online delivery modalities.
- Experience in online course development.
- Active research that can be incorporated into classroom teaching.
- Ability to mentor student research.
- Knowledge of quantitative research models and statistical analysis with ability to teach its use to students.
- PhD in Sociology or closely related discipline.

HOURS Monday-Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
