Manufacturing Structural Engineer
A Manufacturing Structural Engineer designs, analyzes, and validates structural components for manufactured products or industrial equipment, ensuring they are robust, cost-effective, and safe. They create detailed designs, conduct FEA modeling, develop assembly instructions, and oversee structural testing. Key duties include optimizing designs for manufacturability and reviewing vendor submittals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Analysis:
Develop structural designs (steel, composites, etc.) using CAD and analyze them using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, fatigue, and load capacity. - Manufacturing Support:
Create and maintain manufacturing, assembly, and test instructions. - Validation:
Plan and execute structural verification testing to ensure products meet design requirements. - Optimization:
Evaluate manufacturing methods to improve structural efficiency, cost, and weight. - Documentation:
Prepare technical specifications, reports, and drawings. - Compliance:
Ensure all designs conform to industry regulations and standards (e.g., AISC, AWS, ABS, USCG).
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus). Strong knowledge of materials (metals, composites) and manufacturing processes. Understanding of structural mechanics and failure analysis. Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with production teams.
Common Experience
- Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, marine, or heavy equipment industries.
- Background in designing for high-volume or heavy-duty structural applications.
