Railcar Repair Technician

Overview

Union Tank Car Company (UTLX), part of Marmon Holdings, backed by Berkshire Hathaway, provides leasing, manufacturing, and repair services for railroad tank cars. UTLX has a long history in the industry with a large fleet and network of repair shops and mobile crews. We are seeking candidates with a positive outlook and strong work ethic to join the team as Railcar Repair Technicians.

• Railcar Repair – follow current repair procedures, conduct inspections to ensure compliance, and perform necessary repairs.
• Customer Support – meet customer expectations to ensure satisfaction with work performed.
• Clerical – ensure invoicing, inspection, and work order information are complete.
• Maintain all required certifications and demonstrate familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
• Other work-related tasks as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanical aptitude with problem-solving abilities; able to use hand tools (e.g., pipe wrenches, pry bars, wrenches, ratchets) to perform tasks such as chipping and grinding weld slag or spatter.
• Ability to perform basic railcar repairs and inspections.
• Strong customer relations skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to safety and following proper procedures.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be able to travel up to 75%.

• Stoop and move between kneeling and standing positions for extended periods.
• Ability to wear respirator gear as required.
• Lift up to 50 pounds from the ground.
• Climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
• Must pass company physical exam, drug screening, and background check.

• Starting Pay Rate: $23.15/hr;
  Railcar Technician Max Level: $30.37/hr.
