Plate Blast Operator
Plate Blast Operator (or Plate Blaster) prepares heavy steel or metal plates for manufacturing by running them through industrial blasting equipment to remove rust, scale, and debris. The role requires operating blast machines, handling heavy materials using cranes or forklifts, and performing quality inspections to ensure smooth, clean surfaces.
Key Responsibilities- Machine Operation:
Set up, adjust, and operate automated shot-blast or grit-blast machines. - Material Handling:
Load and unload heavy steel plates using overhead cranes, forklifts, or magnets. - Quality Control:
Inspect plates before and after blasting to ensure proper cleaning and smooth surface textures. - Documentation:
Track production vouchers, record specific plate data (e.g., heat numbers), and verify customer specifications. - Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on blast equipment, change abrasives, and clean up the work area. - Safety:
Adhere to strict safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, often accompanied by previous experience in a metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment. Physical Strength:
Must be able to stand for long periods and frequently lift or maneuver heavy materials. Math & Reading:
Ability to read blueprints, interpret production vouchers, and measure material dimensions using tape measures or calipers.
