Press Brake Operator
A Press Brake Operator sets up, programs, and operates computer-controlled (CNC) machines to bend, fold, or shape sheet metal according to blueprints. They are responsible for selecting tooling, inspecting finished parts for quality, performing routine machine maintenance, and strictly adhering to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Machine Setup & Operation:
Program and operate CNC press brakes to bend metal parts precisely based on blueprints and design specifications. - Production & Quality Control:
Monitor the bending process, check parts for defects using measuring tools (calipers, protractors), and ensure quality standards. - Material Handling:
Load and unload heavy metal sheets and parts, often requiring heavy lifting. - Tooling Changes:
Change punch and die tooling according to job requirements. - Maintenance:
Perform daily cleaning and preventative maintenance on machines. - Safety Compliance:
Wear proper safety gear (PPE) and strictly follow safety protocols.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Knowledge:
Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders.
Mathematical Aptitude:
Strong shop math skills for calculating angles, dimensions, and bend allowances.
Mechanical
Skills:
Understanding of, and experience with, metal fabrication equipment.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods, walk, and frequently lift/move 1-50 lbs.
Attention to Detail:
High precision in producing parts to meet exact tolerances.
Positions often involve working in fast-paced manufacturing plants, frequently involving noise and heat.
