POSITION TITLE: Security Officer

DATE: April 2023

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt

SALARY RANGE: $18 - $23 houly

WORK SCHEDULE

This full‑time regular position works M‑F year around. This position works on campus during school days and on days where events are taking place on weekends when scheduled.

POSITION SUMMARY

Loyola’s security officers are responsible to monitor the 23 acres of campus, its buildings and perimeter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The security officers help to protect everyone on campus including our faculty, staff, visitors, residents, parents and most importantly our students.

Each security officer reports to and works under the immediate direction of the Security Supervisor and is also a team member and is responsible to work responsibly and independently in accordance with the shift and location of assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Security Officer is expected to successfully perform and be accountable for the duties and responsibilities in the categories below and the primary duties and responsibilities are:

  • Ensure a safe environment through diligent active patrol when and where assigned, strict access control, student monitoring, and direct traffic control within our parking lots.
  • Be visible and observant, courteous and attentive, and present an authoritative presence with students.
  • Communicate concisely, effectively and efficiently at all times.
  • Assist the Dean's Office with student body.
  • Assist Human Resources when called upon.
  • Respond immediately to distress calls, emergency calls and fire alarms.
  • Possess training, knowledge, and ability regarding dealing with disruptive individuals or situations.
  • Know how to de‑escalate incidents swiftly and appropriately.
  • Maintain LHS’s reputation with professionalism and legal compliance.
  • Collaborate with other security officers for effective protection and campus wide coverage.
  • Be available for overtime based upon the school’s 7‑day week schedule for academia, athletics and events.
  • Understand the Schools daily calendar and the Officers role in supporting administration to that calendar.
Routine Daily Responsibilities
  • Patrol property on foot or via mobile unit. Secure personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and fence perimeter in all weather conditions.
  • Investigate and take the appropriate lawful action as authorized by the president of the school, its principal and Board of Directors following policy on accidents, incidents, trespassing, suspicious activities, safety, and fire incidents.
  • Control and monitor surveillance equipment, and perform building and equipment inspections.
  • Guard access points, permitting or refusing entry, restraining trespassers, and direct heavy traffic during start and end of school hours and on major events.
  • Complete daily reports, including relevant information, observations and surveillance.
  • Secure all doors, windows, and exits, depending on shift.
  • Other miscellaneous duties that may be assigned by the Sr. Director of Facilities Management, The Principal and/or the President.
CUSTOMER SERVICE & COMMUNICATION

Ensure the Loyola High School mission and philosophy is followed in all matters of customer service and communication, both inside and outside the community. Communicates clearly and promptly to all requests for services that fall under his/her purview.

EDUCATION, SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Position requires:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years skilled experience as security officer including customer service. Experience in or with loss prevention also
  • Knowledgeable with computers, and aptitude to learn new software and systems
  • Experience with security equipment and surveillance systems
  • Prior experience in a supervisory role.
  • Helpful, courteous attitude
  • Certification in first aid, CPR
