GeneralPurpose
Under the general supervision of Electric Administrator. This is a third-level apprentice lineman performing work in the construction, operation, maintenance and repairs of power and lighting distribution systems; restores power, maintains lines and related/associated equipment used in overhead and underground service and substations to provide reliable service. The incumbent exercises some independent decision making in accomplishing specific assignments and works under the general supervision of a certified lineman and the general supervision of the Crew Chief.
This position is required to start and complete the third year of the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma (MESO) Certified Line Apprentice Training Program. This position works on deadlines and equipment, live secondary lines and equipment without direct supervision, and on live primary lines and equipment with direct supervision.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Safety sensitive positions must comply to federal regulations where marijuana still remains illegal. Possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt safety sensitive positions from federal regulations. Should one of these safety sensitive positions test positive on a drug test and lose the ability to perform within the job description outline, the City of Claremore will implement the zero tolerance policy resulting in immediate termination.
Functions
- Must complete and pass the third year of the MESO apprenticeship program within 15 months from the start date of the program.
- Assists with installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines, systems, and associated/related equipment.
- Assists in the construction, operation, maintenance and repair of transmission and substation facilities.
- Assists with service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
- Operates motorized equipment, uses hand tools and performs routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery and tools.
- Uses climber’s belt and tools and climb poles.
- Follows safety guidelines as set forth in OSHA and NESC requirements.
- Works on deadlines and equipment, live secondary lines and equipment without direct supervision, and on primary lines and equipment with direct supervision.
- Must be willing to periodically perform stand‑by and call‑back duties and be available for call outs during off‑duty hours to include holidays and weekends.
- Must live within twenty‑five (25) miles of Electric warehouse.
- Shall stock and service vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Maintains tools, equipment, and materials and guards against loss or damage.
- The employee is frequently required to transfer knowledge to coworkers that are in the apprenticeship program. Frequent supervision is required for apprentices, to include assisting them with completion of their on‑the‑job training and work on live and deadlines and equipment.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in electrical distribution system maintenance work; knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations.
