Journeyman Lineman

Under the general supervision of the Electric Director, General foreman and the crew foreman and is an experienced, fully trained and certified journeyman lineman performing complex work in the construction, operation, maintenance and repairs of power and lighting distribution systems; restores power, maintains lines and related/associated equipment used in overhead and underground service and substations to provide reliable service. The incumbent exercises independent decision making in accomplishing specific assignments and works under the general supervision of the Crew Chief.

This position works on all aspects of the Claremore electric distribution system and spends much of the time training or instructing apprentice linemen to learn skills, principles and procedures required of apprenticeship training. The foreman is responsible for the safety of everyone on his crew and is responsible for the conduct of everyone on his crew. The incumbent is responsible for the equipment that is provided as well as making sure the jobs are completed in a timely, safe, effective manner.

Essential Functions

• Performs complex installation, operation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines, systems, and associated/related equipment.
• Performs complex construction, operation, maintenance and repair of transmission and substation facilities.
• Completes multiple service calls concerning power outages and electrical problems.
• Operates motorized equipment, uses hand tools and perform routine maintenance on electrical equipment, machinery and tools.
• Uses climber's belt and tools and climb poles.
• Follows safety guidelines as set forth by OSHA, NESC and APPA.
• Works on all aspects of the electric distribution system.
• Must be willing to periodically perform stand-by and call-back duties and be available for call outs during off duty hours.
• Must live within twenty-five (25) miles of Electric warehouse.
• Provides training both in book/classroom skills and on the job skills.
• Shall stock and service vehicles to be equipped to respond to emergency situations.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities and

Skills:

• Complete knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in electrical distribution system maintenance work; complete knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade; complete knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical circuits and wiring systems and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations. Demonstrate the knowledge of proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of line work.
  
  Have the ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions;
  Ability to work under varying weather conditions.
• Come to work on time, follow directions, be honest and dependable, maintain safe work environment, be cooperative, have a positive attitude, be courteous and considerate team member, manage time effectively, concentrate on work, recognize problems and find solutions; ability to learn proper methods, procedures and safety precautions of line work; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions;
  Ability to work under varying weather conditions; ability to climb poles with a climber's belt and hooks and perform strenuous duties in all kinds of conditions and weather; ability to understand and provide oral and written instructions quickly and accurately, and under adverse conditions; must be able to learn to make some mathematical computations accurately.
• Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment; knowledge of the application of first aid methods including CPR and the use of the AED devices.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and must be able to complete necessary requirements of a four-year apprenticeship or equivalent program; must possess a Certified Journeyman Lineman Certificate recognized by the Department of Labor.
• Must possess a Valid Oklahoma State Driver's License, and must have a valid State Class "A" CDL with air brake and standard transmission endorsement or the ability to obtain within 90 days from the date of hire; must be insurable with City's insurance carrier; CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain one within one year from the date of hire.
  
  This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing. Safety sensitive positions must comply to federal regulations where marijuana still remains illegal. Possession of a medical marijuana license does not exempt safety sensitive positions from federal regulations. Should one of these safety sensitive positions test positive on a drug test and lose the ability to perform within the job description outline, the City of Claremore will implement the zero tolerance policy resulting in immediate termination.
