Position: Automation Specialist - Variable Frequency Drives and Power

About the Role

The Automation Specialist Variable Frequency Drives and Power role is a commercial and technical resource focused on the industrial automation portfolio of products and services. This role supports customers and offices in northern New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley, and the NYC metropolitan areas including Nassau and Suffolk counties.

What You’ll Do
  • Work with our team to plan and execute the annual commercial business growth including target account selection and pursuit, maintain technical competency, and identify future business investments.
  • Articulate the value of Rockwell’s Variable Frequency Drive and Power Product offering, engage in value discussions of rotary motion offerings (including independent cart and robotics), sell customer outcomes at all levels, and develop third‑party vendor and delivery partners.
  • Act as a customer‑centric business advocate.
  • The performance of this specialist group is judged on the revenue performance of the assigned product segments. Candidates demonstrate the ability to work independently and are self‑motivated.
Technical
  • You will be a technical liaison between Rockwell Automation, the distributor, and customers, providing technical, marketing, and commercial leadership for sales growth.
  • The Drives & Power Specialist is the domain expert and point of contact for customers when supporting the Power portfolio, which includes Emulate3D, Kinetix, Power Flex, Motion, Integrated Cart Technology, Linear Motion, and Robotics.
  • Provides selection and design advice for most assigned products in common configurations and leverages the proper Rockwell Automation resources for engineered‑to‑order solutions.
  • Design software capabilities (e.g., Solid Works), Emulate3D, motion‑related networking, and robotics experience are a plus.
  • Able to differentiate products/solutions from competition and promote the differences as meaningful benefits to the customer.
Marketing
  • Analyze market conditions, develop and implement an annual business plan.
  • Understand market conditions, competitive forces, determine market share, and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Work with our marketing department to administer and implement marketing programs and product launches for Turtle’s Industrial/Manufacturing solutions business.
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills with the ability to present topics to mid‑/large‑size groups of customers (external and internal).
  • Clear communicator with a proven track record of providing relevant and timely information and feedback, as needed.
Qualifications
  • 4‑year degree or equivalent professional experience in technical disciplines is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of industrial automation standards and practices such as UL 61800‑5‑1 and UL 347A.
  • Control systems and Computer Technology (Microsoft).
  • Industrial/Manufacturing/Infrastructure solutions.
  • Industrial/Manufacturing/Infrastructure Application Knowledge.
  • The ideal candidate will have exposure to all levels and connectivity of the Purdue Model (Field Devices to ERP). Platforms include but are not limited to:
    Variable Frequency Drives, Servo Motor and drives, Intelligent Power, PLC, and HMI/SCADA software.
  • Proven self‑starter with a track record of market development and program execution experience.
  • Comfortable engaging customers in a friendly and informative manner, explaining capabilities and potential applications of our mechatronics solutions.
  • Comfortable translating complex technical concepts into clear and concise language for a mixed audience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in sales or a related customer‑facing role.
  • Prior knowledge of automation principles or programming languages.
  • Experience working with proof‑of‑concept development.
