The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting site-wide EHS programs with a strong emphasis on data analytics, regulatory compliance, and environmental permitting. This role serves as a key resource to the EHS department by managing EHS data systems, supporting compliance activities, coordinating environmental programs (including air permits and waste management), and delivering EHS training.

You will partner with facilities, production, and laboratory stakeholders to drive risk reduction and foster a proactive EHS culture.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and analyze EHS data for leading and lagging indicators, including incidents, near misses, observations, and environmental metrics.
  • Develop and manage Excel-based dashboards, pivot tables, and trend analyses to support executive decision-making.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc EHS reports for site leadership and corporate regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure data integrity and standardization of EHS metrics across the site.
  • Support root cause analysis by providing data extracts and visualizations.
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, NJ DEP).
  • Support environmental permitting activities, emissions tracking, and record‑keeping.
  • Coordinate hazardous and non‑hazardous waste management, including profiles and vendor coordination.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, including procedures and work instructions, in alignment with corporate requirements.
  • Conduct EHS inspections and compliance audits; track actions to closure.
  • Research EHS regulations and industry best practices to support continuous program improvement.
  • Training, Communication & Engagement (15%)
  • Develop EHS training materials, including presentations, job aids, and visual standards.
  • Coordinate and deliver onboarding and refresher training in partnership with HR and EHS managers.
  • Track training completion rates and provide metrics to leadership.
  • Support site-wide EHS campaigns, 5S initiatives, and internal communication (newsletters, digital signage).
  • Participate in or lead EHS‑related continuous improvement projects.
  • Support incident investigations by organizing documentation and tracking corrective actions.
  • Assist in preparing the site for internal and external corporate or regulatory audits.
  • Partner with EHS managers on risk assessment, exposure reduction, and digital tool implementation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • Approximately 7‑10 years of relevant EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, charts) and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with EHS data tools, incident management systems, or environmental tracking software.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations (air, waste, wastewater).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate regulations into practical site actions.
  • Project management skills and a high aptitude for technology.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the US on an ongoing basis.
  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional EHS certifications (ASP, CSP, CIH, or CHMM).
