Performs a variety of technical activities; conducts drafting, design and other technical tasks related to projects, programs, operations, and maintenance of various facilities. Assists in review of construction or development plans and specifications; conducts a variety of preliminary surveys, investigations, inspections, construction layouts and tests; conducts research as assigned; performs the more technical duties related to the assigned area of responsibility;
assists in providing technical guidance to lower-level engineering technician staff. Performs in-depth investigations to diagnose root cause of problems and develops cost effective solutions.
The Senior Engineering Technician will serve an important role within the Planning and Design Division as Cincinnati Parks continues to increase project delivery, strengthen project quality, and support capital and facility improvement needs throughout the park system. This position will work collaboratively with Division staff, contractors, consultants, and other internal and external partners to help move projects from planning through implementation.
Specifically, this position will support:
- Expedited Project Delivery: Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of significant facility maintenance, renovation, and improvement projects that exceed the capacity or technical scope of internal maintenance resources and require professional design, engineering, construction, or other contracted services.
- Effective Project Coordination: Support project schedules, documentation, cost estimates, procurement activities, consultant and contractor coordination, field observations, and other activities necessary to keep assigned projects progressing toward successful completion.
- Improved Service Delivery: Identify and embrace new technologies, tools, processes, and project management methods that improve Division efficiency, communication, documentation, and overall service delivery.
- Enhanced Project Quality: Help ensure projects are designed and constructed using sustainable practices, appropriate materials, sound construction methods, and durable solutions that support the long-term maintenance and operation of Cincinnati Parks facilities.

Collaboration:
Work across Parks divisions and with City departments, consultants, contractors, and community stakeholders to support projects that meet operational needs while maintaining the quality and character expected throughout the Cincinnati Parks system.

Knowledge of- Principles of engineering as related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Principles and practices of construction related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Principles and practices of surveying; set-up and use of surveying equipment.
- Equipment and techniques used to inspect, clean, monitor, repair, and rehabilitate various facilities.
- City of Cincinnati engineering standards.
- City of Cincinnati Safety Manual and principles and practices of medical first aid.
- Rules and regulations pertaining to assigned area of responsibility.
- Principles and practices of drafting by hand and with AutoCAD and/or Arc View and editing Geographic Information System using ArcGIS.
- Techniques of production of technical drawings and reproducing plans, drawings, etc.
- Principles and practices of producing property surveys, preliminary surveys and construction layouts.
- Technical mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, geometry, etc.; mathematical functions related to engineering.
- Pertinent state, federal and local laws, regulations and codes, including residential construction standards, plumbing and building codes.
- Operate surveying equipment and equipment and electronics related to assigned area of responsibility.
- Use designated computer software packages in performance of assigned duties with engineering functions, databases, and word processing.
- Perform strenuous manual labor tasks, e.g. moving manhole covers, carrying equipment, clearing brush, etc.
- Perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, kneeling, etc. in performance of duties.
- Communicate complex information in terms such that non-technical people can understand.
- Work effectively with customers, community officials and stakeholders, and organizational officials.
- Use a laptop computer in the field, as required.
- Operate assigned vehicle.
- Complete assigned drafting tasks, using manual and CAD methods.
- Perform mathematical calculations related to engineering functions.
