Job Description

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Chemicals
Location: Charleston, WV

Overview

Purpose:

You will provide mechanical engineering services to Worley and its customers, including technical leadership, project oversight, and supervision within the mechanical engineering team. In this role, you will support the delivery of complex industrial and nuclear projects by contributing to the design, execution, construction, and commissioning of mechanical systems while ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, and regulatory specifications.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, its customers, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Initiate, manage, and when required supervise mechanical engineering project requirements.
  • Serve as the Project Discipline Lead, integrating mechanical design activities in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Function as the Mechanical Engineering Lead on assigned projects.
  • Lead or support a multidisciplinary mechanical engineering team, including engineers and designers, to achieve project objectives.
  • Participate in project meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking and review procedures.
  • Ensure project scope is clearly defined and that changes comply with project change management processes.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities, including preparing requisitions, conducting technical bid evaluations, reviewing vendor documentation, and supporting equipment selection.
  • Outline project requirements, actively promote workshare where appropriate, assign tasks, and supervise project progress.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet customer expectations, applicable regulatory requirements, and project schedules.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to resolve technical questions, discrepancies, and engineering issues.
  • Maintain awareness of the latest developments, technical innovations, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
  • Assist and support junior personnel within the mechanical engineering team by providing technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Communicate effectively with the mechanical engineering team, project stakeholders, contractors, and customers.
  • Identify engineering challenges, develop practical solutions, and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • May serve as a technical consultant within area of expertise and provide technical presentations to customers or Company management.
  • Complete additional responsibilities associated with this position as required.

Qualifications

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in mechanical engineering within the nuclear, chemical, refining, petrochemical, or similar industrial sectors.
  • Experience supporting multiple phases of engineering projects, from conceptual design through detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning.
  • Experience working in project leadership or discipline lead roles.
  • Strong technical and practical mechanical engineering skills with the ability to consistently deliver accurate, high-quality, and timely work.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering and a working knowledge of related engineering disciplines.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable local, national, and international codes, standards, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including nuclear industry standards where applicable.
  • Competent use of mechanical engineering design software and related engineering applications.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant business software.
  • Substantial experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams and industrial project environments.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Typically 8 or more years of relevant professional experience, including experience supporting nuclear engineering projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States with the ability to obtain licensure in West Virginia.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to work in or relocate to the Charleston, West Virginia area.

Preferred:

  • Additional experience supporting nuclear systems, facilities, or Department of Energy (DOE) projects.
