The veterinarian position is a full‑time, 9‑month, non‑tenure track, non‑tenure eligible in the Veterinary Technology Program. The Veterinarian will provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and instruction to veterinary technology and veterinary assistant students while ensuring the highest standards of animal care and safety. This role combines hands‑on animal care with an educational focus, preparing students for entry‑level roles in veterinary settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teach classes to Veterinary Technology and Veterinary Assistant students
- Perform surgeries as appropriate
- Maintain scheduled office, classroom, and laboratory hours as required
- Participate in program administration
- Assist with program accreditation activities
- Advise students
- Participate in Health Science and Pierpont programs, committees, and meetings
- Participate in program review and assessment
- Maintain mutually respectful relationships with peers, staff, and students
- Participate in the recruitment and retention of students
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences
- Knowledge of current veterinary practices, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor students in a hands‑on learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
- Licensed by the State of WV;
License must be valid by date of employment - Previous experience treating large and small animals
- Prior teaching experience preferred
- Ability to occasionally lift fifty (50) pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Fine motor skills
- Visual acuity
