JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Security Department for Highland Clarksburg Hospital (HCHI). The primary responsibilities are to manage workflow for the department, ensure accurate documentation is maintained, assign tasks under the direction of the Chief Quality Officer, and oversee the Security Services Department to ensure a safe and secure environment for all person(s) on the property and for the property itself.
This position assists other departments with security-related occurrences and concerns.
- Responsible for pre-screening, interviewing, and recommending for hire, promotion, and termination of staff in assigned department.
- Oversee Security Department ensuring positive customer service interaction and provides appropriate assistance to hospital patients, visitors and staff to facilitate orderly and efficient access to HCHI facilities in accordance with HCHI policies and procedures.
- Coordinate department responses, visibility, and presence at assigned locations responding to all patient, visitor and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
- Provides physical assistance to staff as needed to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Monitors and maintains traffic flow in parking areas and roadways
- Protects people and property by assisting in the prevention of accidents, theft and vandalism, in accordance with HCHI policies and procedures.
- Maintains consistent presence and visibility by performing routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot control.
- Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
- Responds to reports of suspicious situations, circumstances, incidents and persons, according to policy and procedures.
- Review and coordinate with the Chief Quality Officer on written documentation of activities, incidents, premises safety, accidents, theft, vandalism and other data requested by supervision in a factual, objective and legible manner.
- Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors and staff during emergency situations such as assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
- Watches video security monitors carefully and diligently to identify safety and security issues that arise and takes timely and appropriate action to mitigate any concerns observed. Reports the same to superiors in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Expectations of this position include the following as required: incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, may assist with restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, parking enforcement, consistence presence and visibility, victim assistance, policy enforcement, investigation of alarms, parking lot rounds, effective radio communication, loss prevention, etc.
- Provides training to new and existing Security Staff.
- Provides coverage for call off’s, scheduling, office duties and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Serves as a positive role model for patients and peers providing examples of appropriate behaviors, effective communication, and working in conjunction with supervisor to resolve conflict. Encourages open, honest communication to facilitate problem solving.
- Assists in the enforcement of interim life safety plans.
- Provides oversight and supervision to the Security Department to ensure an efficient and regulatory compliant operation that assures the safety and security of the facility and grounds.
- Develops, recommends, implements, enforces, reviews, and revises policies and procedures of assigned area of responsibility.
- Monitors staff to ensure they are following established policies and procedures.
- Participates in committees as designated by leadership.
- Ensure that staff provide accurate and efficient documentation of activities in their department. Maintains staffing at appropriate levels.
- Assists QA or other departments in the timely investigation of safety incidents on campus.
- Ensures that patient inventory is completed timely, accurately, and correctly.
- Participates in EOC activities as directed.
- Collects and analyzes departmental data
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates or college course work preferred.
Experience:Prior security experience and/or training required. Prior Health Care Security experience preferred.
LanguageSkills:
Ability to read and interpret instructions, documents and follow procedures. Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with patients and their families, employees, and public.
