Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Position Summary
The Laborer – Water/Sewer performs entry-level manual work in support of water distribution, sewer collection, wastewater treatment, and related operational activities. Work involves assisting with construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and service tasks necessary to support the safe and efficient operation of CPU’s water and wastewater systems.
This position performs physically demanding duties under direct supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assists with installation and repair of water services and sewer lines
- Assists with maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and sewer collection systems
- Performs general construction and ground maintenance activities
- Loads, unloads, and transports materials and equipment
- Operates hand tools and basic power tools
- Cleans and maintains job sites and work areas
- Follows established safety procedures and utilizes required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Assists in emergency response and outage situations as assigned
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Division Foreman or Crew Leader
Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance practices
- Knowledge of safe work methods and PPE requirements
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to interact professionally with customers and coworkers
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience:
No prior experience required. On-the-job training will be provided.
Licenses and CertificationsValid Mississippi Driver’s License required.
Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily outdoors in varied weather conditions. The position requires lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, digging, operating tools and equipment, and performing repetitive physical tasks. The position may require overtime or emergency response outside regular working hours, in accordance with CPU policy.
