Job DutiesUnder broad supervision, aids the instructor/teacher in providing education and/or training to students. Prepares instructional materials, maintains the learning environment, and conducts child development activities. Monitors and supervises classroom functions, serves as lead worker when required, and performs responsibilities with minimal supervision. Maintains student records, acts as a job expert or resource, assesses students’ educational and adjustment needs, distributes teaching materials, inventories and orders supplies, tracks daily observations, and enforces classroom discipline.
Plans, prepares, posts, and implements developmentally appropriate activities, sanitizes toys and equipment, and tutors individuals or small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
- Experience working with young deaf/hard of hearing children in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate in American Sign Language during the interview, with the expectation of obtaining an ASLPI rating of 3 or above within three years from the date of hire.
- High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in an instructional/childcare setting, or two years of experience required at the lower level Instruction Paraprofessional 2 (EDS
011) or equivalent position.
