Thermoplastic Process Engineer
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Thermoplastic Process Engineer to innovate and optimize thermoplastic extrusion processes for both new and existing products. This role supports the development and scaling of multiple extrusion profiles and materials from prototype to production. The ideal candidate will troubleshoot processing issues and implement sustainable improvements, ensuring the highest quality and efficiency in production.
Responsibilities- Optimize thermoplastic extrusion processes for new and existing products.
- Support the development of multiple extrusion profiles and materials, scaling from prototype to production.
- Troubleshoot processing issues and implement sustainable process improvements.
- Select, review, and validate tooling and die sets for new product launches.
- Lead tool and die design reviews and recommend improvements to enhance performance and longevity.
- Oversee remelting and reflow processes to ensure material consistency and reduce scrap.
- Apply scientific molding principles to establish robust, repeatable manufacturing processes.
- Execute process validation using statistical methods such as DOE and Cp/Cpk.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Operate, set up, and troubleshoot extrusion and molding equipment as needed.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standards.
- Experience with thermoplastics manufacturing, including extrusion processes.
- Strong understanding of tooling and die design and selection.
- Hands‑on experience with machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of scientific molding practices.
- Experience with statistical validation and process control methods.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in developing new extrusion types.
- Ability to select, review, and validate tool and die sets.
- Proficiency in remelting and reflowing plastic products.
- Familiarity with tool design review and improvement standards.
The work environment consists of approximately 60% time spent in the thermo lab and 40% on the manufacturing floor. Flexible work hours are available, with options such as 8‑5, 9‑6, or 7‑4 shifts. While a few hours of overtime may be required, it is not excessive. The workplace fosters a community atmosphere with family events and team‑building activities. Contract to Hire position based out of Jeffersonville, IN. Fully onsite.
Pay and BenefitsPay range: $57.70 – $62.50 per hour.
