Derby Dinner Playhouse is one of the region's premier dinner theatres, offering guests an unforgettable combination of live theatre, dining, and entertainment. Derby Dinner Playhouse is seeking a personable, organized, and dependable Gift Shop Assistant to join our retail team. This part-time position offers 5–15 hours per week. The ideal candidate has retail experience, strong customer service skills, and basic computer knowledge.
The Gift Shop is an important part of the Derby Dinner Playhouse guest experience. Our team helps theatre guests find unique gifts, souvenirs, and merchandise while maintaining an attractive and welcoming retail space. Hours are flexible and may be scheduled Monday through Friday between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM. The position may also include select Saturdays from approximately 6:30 AM–4:00 PM for Children's Theatre performances. Employees will generally have two days off per week. The Gift Shop operates in conjunction with theatre performances and special events; some evening, weekend, and holiday availability is required.
Job ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Help maintain a clean, organized, attractive, and fully stocked retail environment
Provide friendly, professional customer service to theatre guests
Operate the cash register and work as a cashier when needed
Answer customer questions and assist guests with merchandise selections
Process customer purchases accurately
Assist with opening and closing duties
Be able to balance funds and operate a POS system
Perform other retail and Gift Shop duties as assigned

RequiredPrevious retail or customer service experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Basic computer skills
Comfortable using a POS system and a cash register
Ability to learn and use retail and inventory systems
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and follow directions
Ability to work evenings, select Saturdays, holidays, and weekends in accordance with our performance schedule
This position requires regular movement and interaction with merchandise. Candidates must be comfortable:
Standing for extended periods
Walking while carrying merchandise
Lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 25–30 pounds
Bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting
Reading small print and merchandise labels
Moving merchandise between storage and retail areas
