this is the first of four levels in the gis series. Incumbents enter, edit, collect, and verify gis data. Responsibilities may include entering and editing new or existing information into a gis database; collecting field data; producing large format maps and other cartographic products; providing gis data to internal and external entities; and maintaining related records.

this is the second of four levels in the gis series. Incumbents provide gis analysis and modeling to various departments. Responsibilities may include designing and installing gis systems; providing technical support to departments as needed; and creating workflows for departments.

specific duties and responsibilities

essential functions:

• prepares, collects, organizes and inputs data to maintain and enhance the department's geographic information system, including field research and gps data collection and processing.

• assists with interpreting as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering documents, deeds, plats and easements, imagery, and related source documents and incorporates them into gis.

• responds to requests for information from internal departments and external entities; confers with internal departments to determine data and gis needs.

• maintains a variety of forms and reports related to data analysis and mapping activities.

• performs other related work as required.

essential functions:

• designs and installs gis systems which includes developing maps; updating databases; developing new applications; and modifying and updating current systems.

• prepares a variety of specialized gis maps and related documents.

• performs complex data analyses using arcgis and related extensions, relational databases and other computer software.

• prepares a variety of reports and/or other written correspondence related to gisactivities, programs, and tasks.

• provides technical support to department as needed; responds to requests for information from internal departments; confers with internal departments to determine data and gis needs.

• performs other related work as required.

minimum education and training

education and experience

• associate's degree in geographic information science or a related field.

• an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.

license and certifications

• possession of a valid driver's license.

education and experience

• associate's degree in geographic information science or a related field.

• three (3) years experience with a gis database.

• an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

physical requirements:

the work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to or constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

• balancing: maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.

• feeling: perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

• fingering: picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

• grasping: applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
