Civil Design Engineer

Spherion has a well-established, full-service civil engineering, land planning, and surveying firm, seeking an ambitious Civil Engineer to join their team. This firm is a staple in the North Middle Tennessee region, known for managing high-profile projects from initial concept through completion. This is a permanent, full-time position designed for a high-performing EIT who is ready to transition from production-heavy design into a Project Management leadership role.

You will be responsible for designing and overseeing a diverse portfolio of site development projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial sites. This role offers the professional challenge of complex engineering without the burden of heavy travel.

• Site Design: Lead the creation of comprehensive site plans, grading plans, and utility layouts.
• Hydrology & Hydraulics: Perform stormwater management design and calculations.
• Permitting: Manage the regulatory permitting process with local and state agencies.
• Project Oversight: Monitor project progress, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to timelines.

• 3–4 years of Civil Site Design experience
• EIT Certification (actively on PE track)
• AutoCAD Civil 3D (advanced proficiency)
• Site Planning & Layout (Residential, Commercial, and Industrial)
• Utility Design (Water and Sanitary Sewer)
• Regulatory Permitting experience (Local and State)

• Project Management experience or leading small design teams
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or scheduled exam date
• Specific Software: HydroCAD, StormCAD, or Pond Pack
• Local Knowledge: Experience with Clarksville/Montgomery County codes and TDEC regulations
• Business Development: Basic experience with client relations or proposal drafting
• Construction Administration: Experience with RFI responses and site observations
• Advanced Modeling: Experience with 3D pipe networks and surface analysis
