Reliability Engineer
This Reliability Engineer role provides technical support by developing and executing strategies and tactics that reduce equipment failure rates and eliminate production and maintenance-related waste. The position focuses on creating and managing standard operating and maintenance procedures to ensure consistent, reliable performance of heavy industrial process equipment in a manufacturing environment. The role begins as a full-time contract position with the clear intention of transitioning into a permanent role and will ultimately be based in a state-of-the-art new facility.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the identification and review of critical equipment to prioritize reliability efforts.
- Determine the consequences of failure for critical equipment and assess associated risks.
- Conduct detailed failure modes analyses on critical equipment to identify root causes and preventive actions.
- Perform integrity and maintenance audits on critical equipment to verify compliance with standards and best practices.
- Analyze critical equipment history and performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement and manage agreed key performance indicators (KPIs) for critical equipment and monitor performance trends.
- Develop and refine maintenance strategies and tactics to improve equipment reliability and availability.
- Monitor and respond to variations in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and other agreed KPIs, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Determine control limits for process and equipment loss or failure analysis to support data-driven decision making.
- Facilitate root cause analyses (RCAs) and use the outcomes of reliability-centered studies (RCS) to update maintenance strategies and tactics.
- Develop predictive maintenance (PDM) tactics based on equipment strategies and condition monitoring data.
- Use PDM information and findings to continuously update and improve maintenance strategies.
- Submit, justify, and implement projects aimed at improving plant reliability and reducing downtime.
- Provide technical and problem-solving support to maintenance teams to resolve complex equipment and process issues.
- Conduct life cycle cost and operability studies for existing and proposed equipment installations to optimize long-term performance and cost.
- Perform reliability reviews of proposed or modified plant and equipment to ensure robust design and maintainability.
- Review reliability aspects of proposals submitted through the change management process to ensure alignment with reliability objectives.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to embed best practices in asset and maintenance management.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of standard operating and maintenance procedures to ensure consistency and continuity of best practices.
Essential
Skills:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Engineering.
- Approximately 3 years of experience in project and maintenance engineering is preferred.
- Experience in reliability engineering or maintenance engineering in a heavy industrial environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex equipment and process data.
- Facilitation skills to lead cross-functional reviews, workshops, and root cause analyses.
- Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) skills, including development of maintenance strategies and tactics.
- Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) usage and interrogation skills for extracting and analyzing maintenance data.
- Root cause analysis (RCA) skills to systematically investigate equipment and process failures.
- Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) skills to evaluate risk and prioritize actions.
- Knowledge or work experience with heavy industrial equipment, preferably in refinery, metals processing, chemical production, or similar environments.
- Familiarity with maintenance management and asset management practices in manufacturing or heavy industry.
- Ability to support and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and other reliability-related KPIs.
