Qualifications- Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree OR one year of full-time experience as an employee of the Collection Services Division of the Tennessee Department of Revenue performing tax related work.

Professional experience in financial analysis or investigation, negotiation of delinquent payments, or full-time experience in the Tennessee Department of Revenue may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis, to a maximum of four years. - Substitution of Education for

Qualifications:
May be required to possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, personal vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation. - Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions.
Under immediate supervision, the employee is responsible for tax collections and tax enforcement work of routine difficulty. This entry‑level class learns to collect delinquent taxes from businesses and individual taxpayers (or their representative) and performs related work as required, interpreting and enforcing tax laws, rules, and regulations through a prescribed set of collection and enforcement procedures.
After a mandatory two‑year training period, successful employees may be reclassified to the Revenue Collection Officer Intermediate
* class; inadequate performance may result in demotion or termination.
- Determine steps needed to collect delinquent revenue through reviewing and negotiating payment options with delinquent taxpayers and/or business representatives within specified time frames, including processing payments.
- Research, locate, and evaluate or re‑evaluate taxpayer assets to support tax collection actions and voluntary compliance.
- Interact with financial institutions, attorneys, law enforcement officials, and representatives in other divisions, maintaining confidentiality while researching, locating, and assisting taxpayers in collecting delinquent taxes.
- Interpret and explain tax types, tax laws, rules, and regulations to answer general tax‑related questions and perform job functions.
- Manage case assignments, maintain case notes, and prioritize assignments.
- Utilize collection tools—including liens, garnishments, assessments—and recommend field work to resolve delinquent accounts.
- May be required to be comfortable around persons using firearms and/or use an assigned firearm to defend against attempted physical or deadly assaults.
