Data Engineer II

The Data Engineer II plays an important role within , focused on delivering engineering innovation within , helping to execute the delivery of key business initiatives. S/he acts as a “universal translator” between IT, business, software engineers and data scientists, collaborating with these multi-disciplinary teams. The Data Engineer II will contribute to the adherence of technical standards for data engineering, including the selection and refinements of foundational technical components.

S/he will work on those aspects of the platform that govern the ingestion, transformation, and pipelining of data assets, both to end users within Fed Ex and into data products and services that may be externally facing. Day-to-day, s/he will be deeply involved in code development and medium-scale deployments.

Responsible for designing and implementing data pipelines, ensuring data quality and accessibility, creating data models, managing ETL processes, optimizing databases, collaborating with stakeholders, utilizing big data tools, implementing real-time data processing, ensuring data governance and security, documenting data architecture, and delivering data-driven insights.

• 1. Design and implement data pipelines to collect, process, and store data efficiently.
• 2. Ensure data quality, integrity, and accessibility.
• 3. Create data models to support business analytics and reporting.
• 4. Work with business partners, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs, and design schemas.
• 5. Build and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for data integration and automate data ingestion and transformation tasks.
• 6. Optimize ETL pipelines and databases (both SQL and No
  
  SQL). Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues.
• 7. Collaborate with software engineers to integrate data systems with applications.
• 8. Utilize big data tools for processing large datasets, such as Spark, Big Query, SQL, Pub/Sub, or Data Proc.
• 9. Experience with Ab Initio ETL is preferred.
• 9. Implement distributed systems for real-time data processing.
• 10. Ensure data governance and security through compliance with data governance policies and data security standards.
• 11. Implement data access controls and encryption techniques.
• 12. Document data architecture, pipelines, and processes.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related quantitative field such as Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent formal training or work experience.

Two (2) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development and/or predictive analytics. Strong knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks including design, development and implementation of highly complex systems and data pipelines. Strong knowledge in Information Systems including design, development and implementation of large batch or online transaction-based systems. Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies.

Experience as a member of multi-functional project teams. Strong oral and written communication skills. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

The preferred location for this hybrid position is Collierville, TN. However, we will consider candidates based elsewhere within the United States (excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories). Candidates residing within 50 miles of a Fed Ex campus will be required to work on-site at a Fed Ex location several times per week.

Collierville Pay Range: $7,488.36/monthly - $9,922.07/monthly
