Job Summary

Responsible for planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of your training and expertise, collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes that align with the objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Tennessee.

Full‑time (36 hours per week), nights (6:45p.m.–6:45a.m.). Position based at the Vanderbilt Clarksville Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a 21‑bed mixed medical/surgical adult ICU.

The team consists of intensivists, advanced practice nurses, critical‑care nurses, and respiratory therapists. Daily multidisciplinary rounds include an intensivist, advanced practice nurse, ICU nurse, case manager, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, infectious disease, and nurse leader. A SWAT team (intensivist, advanced practice nurse, and charge nurse) is available for bedside consultation. The ICU charge nurse responds to codes and rapid response team calls.

Each shift begins with a safety huddle to review 24‑hour safety and quality concerns.

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• National Institutes of Health (NIH) protocol knowledge
• ECG interpretation

12 weeks of orientation are offered based on nursing experience for nurses with at least one year of experience.

• Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
• Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
• Continuously utilize the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
• Employ strategies to promote health and a safe, healthy environment.
• Engage in multidisciplinary rounding, bedside shift report, and shared governance activities.

• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) – licensure required in Tennessee.
• Minimum of one year of nursing experience; less than one year experience for an advanced practice option.
• Graduate of an approved discipline‑specific program.
• Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessment, critical thinking, and decision making in an ICU setting.
