Mental Health Nurse
Job Summary
Provides nursing care to clients in crisis in the Walk‑In Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit. Provides medication monitoring, adjusts medications within limits prescribed by authorized prescriber, and gives information, education, and support to individuals in crisis to promote wellness and recovery. Full‑time day shift 7a‑7p.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform nursing assessments on individuals being admitted to the WIC/CSU.
- Monitor vitals, perform lab testing, and evaluate medical appropriateness for admission and continued stay.
- Obtain and enter orders into EMR from authorized prescriber.
- Administer medications to patients, monitor dosage, side effects, and document reactions.
- Provide medication training to guest or guest’s family/guardian.
- Develop and maintain the Treatment Plan of Care for guests.
- Oversee administering of nursing needs of guests.
- Serve as liaison between guest and authorized prescriber, pharmacist, family, and collateral support systems.
- Coordinate guest‑staff assignment of care and provide shift‑change report.
- Observe guests day‑to‑day and document in the EMR.
- Provide group or individual education as needed.
- Participate in or lead staff meetings and training as scheduled.
- Effective communication via written, verbal, in‑person, and virtual methods.
- Basic electronic medical record computer skills.
- Detail oriented with effective problem‑solving skills.
- Leadership skills.
- Knowledge base in psychotropic medications.
- Skill in crisis intervention.
- Ability to de‑escalate patient/clients using evidence‑based de‑escalation training (e.g., The Therapeutic Options) and to use safety holds when necessary.
- Education:
Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school or a state‑approved LPN waiver. RN preferred. - Experience:
One year of behavioral health nursing experience preferred. - Licensure:
Nursing licensure required. Valid driver’s license required.
