Academy Social Studies & Religion Teacher (Grades 6–8)

Guardian Angels Catholic School is seeking a dedicated, faith-filled, and passionate Academy Social Studies & Religion Teacher to join our growing school community. The ideal candidate will inspire students in grades 6‑8 through engaging instruction in social studies and religion while fostering academic excellence, spiritual growth, and a love of learning.

Position Overview

The Academy Social Studies & Religion Teacher is responsible for providing rigorous and engaging instruction in social studies and religion for middle school students in grades 6‑8. The successful candidate will cultivate a classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, historical understanding, civic responsibility, and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. This teacher will serve as a strong witness to the Catholic faith and actively support the mission and values of Guardian Angels Catholic School.

Key Responsibilities Instruction & Curriculum
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Michigan Social Studies Standards and Archdiocese of Detroit Religion Standards.
  • Teach social studies and religion courses to students in grades 6‑8.
  • Develop lessons that encourage inquiry, discussion, critical thinking, and real‑world connections.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, virtues, and faith‑based perspectives throughout instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Utilize technology and innovative teaching practices to enhance student engagement.
Faith Formation
  • Serve as a positive role model and witness to the Catholic faith.
  • Foster students’ spiritual development through prayer, reflection, discussion, and service opportunities.
  • Prepare students for participation in school liturgies, prayer services, and faith‑based activities.
  • Support the Catholic mission of the school in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Encourage students to connect faith with daily life and decision‑making.
Assessment & Student Growth
  • Assess student learning regularly and provide timely, meaningful feedback.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and communicate student progress with families.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student achievement.
  • Collaborate with intervention staff and colleagues to support student success.
School Community
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and parish members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school initiatives.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Support extracurricular activities and student life opportunities as appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to the vibrant culture of Guardian Angels Catholic School.
Qualifications Required
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Endorsement in Social Studies.
  • Previous middle school teaching experience.
