Mechanical Technician 4 / Labor Time Technician
This role combines hands-on mechanical work with analytical time study and service procedure validation. You will modify, test, and repair machinery and vehicles, support engineering teams in designing and improving equipment, and validate automotive service and repair procedures to ensure they are accurate, efficient, and repeatable. The position focuses on disassembling and reassembling vehicles, timing and optimizing these processes, and ensuring that service manuals and procedures reflect real-world best practices.
Responsibilities- Review and approve detailed drawings and sketches to support drafting completion and to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet, or wood shops.
- Review and approve project instructions, blueprints, and specifications to determine test requirements, procedures, objectives, and the nature of technical problems such as redesign needs.
- Identify, modify, and plan requirements for fabrication, assembly, and testing based on project instructions and specifications.
- Communicate changes in design, methods of manufacture and assembly, and drafting techniques and procedures to staff, and approve necessary corrections.
- Review and approve tool drawing designs by measuring drawing dimensions and comparing them with original specifications for form and function.
- Supervise tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to evaluate and improve equipment performance.
- Analyze test results against design specifications, rated performance, and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet required specifications.
- Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for products such as industrial machinery, equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Work on all aspects of vehicles, including disassembly and reassembly, to validate and optimize service and repair procedures.
- Validate service procedures directly on vehicles to ensure they can be performed exactly as written in the service manuals.
- Identify and correct errors in service procedures and recommend optimizations to improve clarity, efficiency, and safety.
- Conduct detailed time studies for removal, installation, and repair processes to measure and document the duration of each task.
- Document all validations, time studies, and procedure changes comprehensively and accurately for inclusion in service documentation.
- Follow and maintain trackers for multiple service and repair procedures, ensuring all assigned procedures are validated and up to date.
- Communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to leadership and engineering teams as needed.
- Collaborate with mechanical service development engineers and service integration engineers to ensure service manuals and repair procedures are practical and accurate.
- Undertake special assignments related to service procedure validation, time studies, or mechanical testing as requested.
- Strong mechanical ability with hands-on experience working on vehicles and mechanical systems.
- Creativity and the ability to devise and implement practical mechanical solutions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting procedures and communicating findings.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify inefficiencies and optimize processes.
- Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common engineering computations.
- Ability to perform detailed calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to engineering.
- Automotive servicing skills, including performing maintenance and repairs, diagnostics, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
- Ability to conduct detailed time studies to measure the duration of repair and maintenance tasks.
- Skills in validating and optimizing service procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Competence in technical documentation, including clear and comprehensive recording of procedures, time studies, and validations.
