The Adult Education Instructor at Ventress will teach adult basic education subjects (Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, History, and other subjects) to students preparing for the GED. The instructor prepares students for their High School Diploma (meeting ALSDE requirements) and for the ACT Work Keys assessment. All duties are performed under the direct supervision of the Adult Education Director and the Dean of Instruction.
- Organizes program instruction studies in Adult Basic Education.
- Instructs students in subject areas.
- Plans and supervises students’ work, individually or in small groups, in classroom or laboratory settings.
- Assesses and evaluates the achievement of students in subject knowledge.
- Completes required documentation accurately and timely while maintaining confidentiality of adult education records.
- Attends mandatory monthly staff meetings and any other meetings called by the Adult Education Director and/or Dean of Instruction.
- Participates in in‑service training and other continuing education activities to maintain a high level of competence and skill in Adult Basic Education and Correctional Education.
- Organizes and completes special projects and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Adult Basic Education Director and/or Dean of Instruction.
- Is eligible to enter any/all Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities to perform the job duties and maintain this status for continued employment.
- Possesses an understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a community and technical college.
- Possesses a sensitivity and commitment to cultural diversity.
- Complies with any applicable guidelines and policies set forth by the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and J.F. Ingram State Technical College.

- Ability to make independent judgments, solve problems, provide leadership, and work with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent organization skills, attentive to detail, and can prioritize multiple tasks.
- Willingly flexible with work schedule as workload dictates.
- Understanding and maintaining confidentiality and professional integrity.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others internal and external to the College.
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required. A master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
Salary Range: Salary will be determined by placement on the appropriate Alabama Community College System-approved salary schedule. D3 ($41,719 - $69,591)
