Overview
Naph Care is hiring a Nurse Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in Ventress Correctional Facility, Clayton, AL, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for incarcerated individuals. As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to patients in residence. Working within a controlled environment, you will assess, diagnose, and treat patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and respond to emergencies.
Responsibilities- Conduct physical examinations, develop treatment plans, and monitor patients.
- Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- Administer medications and provide patient instructions.
- Monitor and document patient health including vital signs and medical histories.
- Provide direct patient care, triage, assess need, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
- Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate health facilities.
- Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
- Adhere to correctional facility security protocols and work closely with officers and health professionals to ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting relevant information.
- Conduct rounds and evaluate patients returning from off‑site treatment.
- Admit and discharge patients from the facility.
- Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate).
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (unrestricted, in Alabama).
- Current DEA registration.
- Appropriate collaborative agreement with the on‑site Physician.
- Active BLS CPR certification (American Heart Association preferred).
- Board certification recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health‑care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health‑care services.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary or confidential information.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus.
- Integrity, professionalism, and adherence to the facility’s Code of Conduct and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR, while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
