Position OverviewWe are seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented file clerk to support our legal team with administrative, records-management, and file-maintenance tasks. This position is an excellent opportunity for a college student or other candidate interested in gaining practical experience in a professional legal environment. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, exercises discretion with confidential information, and takes pride in keeping files and records accurate, complete, and well organized.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Organize, file, and maintain physical and electronic client files
- Scan, copy, and upload legal documents into the firm's document management system
- Prepare and organize files for hearings, depositions, mediations, and trials
- Retrieve and return files for attorneys and staff as requested
- Assist with opening new client files and closing completed matters
- Sort and distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail
- Perform data entry and update client and matter information accurately
- Help maintain office organization, including file rooms and supply areas
- Deliver documents and materials within the office as needed
- Assist attorneys, paralegals, and staff with general administrative projects
- Complete other clerical duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic file management
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and ask questions when needed
- Excellent time management, communication, and follow-through skills
- Ability to lift file boxes up to 25 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods as needed
- Previous office, administrative, or customer-service experience is preferred but not required
- Interest in the legal field or in pursuing a degree in law, business, or a related discipline
- Flexible part-time schedule of 10–20 hours per week, Monday through Friday during normal business hours
