Title: Buyer
Location: Clayton, MO
Salary: $78,600 to $90,000 (depending on relevant experience)
Schedule: Hybrid schedule available, up to 2 days remote per week
Focus: This role will consist of sourcing products, negotiating terms and conditions with suppliers, evaluating bids, ensuring the best value for the organization, and working with various departments, including production, to ensure procurement activities align with overall business needs.
BuyerEssential Job Functions:
- Support supplier development activities, visit suppliers to assess their technology and cost competitiveness, and facilitate resolution of technical capability issues with the Engineering Department.
- Evaluate opportunities for cost savings and lead VA/VE activities, provide financial forecasting, drive inventory cost initiatives and working capital improvement projects.
- Purchase materials, components, and services at the best value consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements while supporting Winchester’s divisional goals.
- Negotiate supply agreements based on forecast demand for materials and services.
- Monitor market trends and economic forecasts affecting assigned markets and evaluate the impact of market trends on Winchester purchase spending. Monitor supplier health and evaluate the risks they represent to the Winchester business.
- Collaborate with department management to develop strategies to address risks.
- Review and release purchase orders prepared by Assistant Buyer(s).
- Monitor supplier delivery performance and coordinate annual supplier ratings.
- Manage adjustments and negotiations with vendors regarding out-of-specification material, poor quality and surplus, obsolete, or incorrect material.
- Manage annual spending of up to $50MM.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree*;
Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Technology, or related discipline preferred. - Minimum two years of experience in Procurement/Supply Chain.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; SAP preferred.
- Knowledge of purchasing and MRP preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must possess excellent analytical, communication (verbal and written), leadership, negotiation, organizational, presentation, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage high-volume workload, and willingness to collaborate and support team efforts.
- Approximately 15% travel (may include international travel).
- This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
