Job Description

The School District of Clayton is seeking Site Assistants for Clayton Kid Zone, the District's before and after school child care program. The Site Assistant will be responsible for the supervision of the students and providing a safe environment, as well as planning activities and experiences for the Kid Zone program. Program hours are 6:45 - 8:30 a.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m.

The successful candidate will:

  • Assist the Site Leader as directed, including preparation and maintenance of program materials.
  • Organize and use a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in-group settings.
  • Provide a variety of appropriate activities for students.
  • Be responsible for supervision of activities: homework club, playground, gym club and activity club (includes arts/crafts, science activities, other teacher planned projects).
  • Supervise activities by participating with children, enforcing rules and ensuring safety of children, remain with children at ALL times, and take initiative when dealing with behavior problems.
  • Communicate with parents and school staff.
  • Maintain an attractive, orderly, and safe environment that is conductive to student learning.
  • Prepare snacks and monitor children during snack time.
  • Assist with clean up and planning when not involved in direct work with children.
  • Assist co-workers with the implementation of weekly lesson plans.
  • Know and follow school procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children.
  • Become familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Complete incident/accident reports when necessary.
  • Serve as a model for appropriate interactions including disciplinary actions; promote a supportive and caring environment until all children have left the program each day.
  • Provide information about students’ needs to Site Leader and seek assistance in understanding individual student needs.
  • Participate in mandatory staff meetings, trainings, conferences and workshops to obtain required professional development and educational requirements.
  • Become familiar with District handbooks.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.

Part Time: 9 - 15 hours per week.

Education: Training and/or experience in supervision of students is desirable.

Experience: Experience working with children is preferred.

Compensation: District provides its staff with competitive pay.

Benefits: Not Eligible.

FLSA: Non-Exempt.

Work Calendar: 10 month position, part-time, Monday - Friday. Program hours are 6:45 - 8:30 a.m. and 3:00-6:00 p.m.
