Overview
Barnes Jewish Extended Care in Bethesda seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide basic nursing care for residents. The role involves daily assessments, documentation, care planning, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
SummaryProvides basic nursing care by assisting in the assessment of residents on admission and ongoing basis. Maintains knowledge of resident changes and communicates significant findings to the interdisciplinary team (IDT). Accurately documents all assessments and seeks guidance when needed. Participates in the care planning process, updates plans as interventions necessitate, and communicates plans to IDT members, residents, and families. Implements necessary nursing interventions, including medication administration and treatments, ensuring safety and timeliness.
Uses critical‑thinking skills when assessing changes in condition and notifies physicians using the SBARR communication tool. Maintains composure during crises such as family dissatisfaction or staff disputes. Monitors effective delivery of care plans, identifies problem areas, and uses the QAPI process for immediate resolution. Identifies behavioral changes or other signs rapidly, answers call lights, and assists with residents' ADLs. Completes at least twelve hours of nursing‑related continuing education and stays current with best practices through Bethesda policies and self‑study.
May be assigned other duties as appropriate.
- Education from an accredited nursing program that results in a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- Experience in long‑term care, rehabilitation, or assisted living preferred
- Current state license as an LPN
- IV certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment
- Current CPR/AED certification required or willing to obtain within six months of employment
- Ability to assess basic nursing care needs of geriatric residents
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with residents, visitors, and staff
- Strong time‑management and organizational skills
- Critical‑thinking abilities
