The St. Louis County Department of Transportation and Public Works seeks an experienced Structural Mechanic to perform remodeling, construction, repair, preventive maintenance, and cleaning work at the skilled generalist level in an assigned area or location.
The typical starting salary range is between $20.00 and $24.00 per hour, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and budgetary considerations.
Location:
Lawrence K, Roos Building, 41 S. Central, Clayton, MO. Shift: 1st shift, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Responsibilities- Perform construction, remodeling, and renovation work: demolishing walls, framing new walls, repairing and installing sheetrock, hanging trim and wall coverings, painting, roofing, installing shelving and drop ceilings, removing and replacing tiled and carpeted flooring, and assembling casework.
- Conduct interior and exterior maintenance and repair of facility structural systems: repairing, refining, and painting doors, walls, ceilings, floors, trim, fixtures, furniture, cabinetry/shelving; pointing masonry and brick; repairing stone, concrete, and tile surfaces.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the job class.
Hand and power tools; pneumatic equipment; hardwoods and Formica; wood glues, stains, and finishes; sheetrock (drywall), tape, spackling, and wall paint; respirator and asbestos containment equipment; janitorial cleaning tools; automobile, van, or light truck (up to 2 ½ tons).
Working ConditionsThe position involves balancing, bending at the waist, climbing or working on scaffolding, ladders, and stairs; crawling or walking on uneven surfaces; exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials (including asbestos); kneeling, squatting, stooping, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level; standing or walking for long periods; working from manlifts and platforms; operating under extreme temperatures; and working outdoors in inclement weather.
Qualifications- Three years of progressively responsible experience in building construction, renovation, construction maintenance, or as a painter or mason.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Possession of a current, valid Driver’s License.
- An Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Accreditation may be required within 30 days of employment, depending on the division assigned.
