Job Summary
Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver at River Dell Elementary in Clayton, North Carolina. Immediate start, 9-month term for the 2026‑2027 school year, reporting to the principal. The position includes academic assistance, instructional preparation and support, record keeping, student behavior monitoring, and bus duty as required.
Qualifications- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
- Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Eligibility for a background check and fingerprinting under the NCDHHS North Carolina Child Care Act.
- Current bus driver certification and compliance with all state Board of Education qualifications if serving as a bus driver.
Academic Assistance
- Provides group instruction as prescribed by the teacher and individualized instruction when appropriate.
- Demonstrates various instructional activities.
- Checks and corrects students’ work while in progress, keeping them on task.
- Praises and reinforces student achievement.
- Reports student progress to the teacher.
Instructional Preparation/Support
- Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment, prepares visual aids, and duplicates materials.
- Reorganizes materials at the end of day.
- Serves as proctor during testing, scores papers as instructed by the teacher, and distributes and collects instructional materials.
- Attends professional development workshops.
Report and Records
- Checks and reports attendance.
- Enters data into health records, records student behavior, and files data according to regulatory requirements.
Monitoring Student Behavior
- Supervises students in the classroom and other locations such as hallways and playgrounds.
- Creates and distributes awards for positive behavior.
- Promotes student self‑esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.
- Reconciles minor student conflicts.
- Participates in the development of discipline policy.
- Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
- Reports discipline problems to the teacher or principal.
- Reports significant changes or lack of changes in student behavior.
- Acts as a team player and role model, demonstrating commitment to continuous quality improvement and supporting core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer‑duty, and diversity.
Duty to Drive a Bus/Sub‑Bus Driver/Bus Monitor/Sub‑Bus Monitor
- Serves as bus driver or monitor as required by the principal, maintaining all state qualifications and maintaining appropriate certification at all times.
- Performs additional duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Can communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Can perform basic life operational functions such as fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
