Reports To: Principal
Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Responsibilities- Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; gets the class started quickly; gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established a set of rules and procedures that govern routine administrative matters, student verbal participation, talk during various activities, movement in the classroom, and behavior during whole‑class, small group, and seat work activities; monitors behavior and stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: The teacher begins the lesson with a review of previous materials, introduces learning objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts with understandable language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks, asks questions, conducts the lesson at a brisk pace, makes transitions efficiently, clarifies assignments, and summarizes main points at the end.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher maintains clear work standards, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral or written work to check progress, and poses clear, single‑question prompts.
- Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides feedback on correctness to encourage growth, gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct oral responses, and gives sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
- Facilitating Instruction: The teacher has an instructional plan aligned with school and system‑wide goals, uses diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives, maintains accurate records, matches objectives and learning strategies to student needs, and uses available resources to support instruction.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
- Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, and demonstrates professional development growth.

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsPhysical Requirements: Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools; intermittent light lifting and standing.

Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate colors.
Interpersonal Temperament: Able to deal with people beyond instructions and adapt under stress.
Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, including telephone communication.
