The newer Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) facility in Clayton, NC covers 825,000 square feet of state‑of‑the‑art equipment and houses fermentation, recovery and purification processes for our oral products.

The Position

Ensure new processes and equipment are compliant with line‑of‑business and global standards. Participate with local and global teams to design equipment that meets URS and IFA requirements, ensuring readiness for installation, qualification and successful ramp‑up. Improve reliability of process control systems to meet current and projected customer, business and regulatory requirements, while serving as gatekeeper for standards.

Reports to Manager/Senior Manager.

Essential Functions
  • Work with local and global project teams to ensure process design compliance with standards
  • Develop interface agreements and align requirements with equipment vendors
  • Develop and implement plans to maintain and improve process control systems
  • Schedule and execute plans in coordination with manufacturing schedules
  • Assist with developing and managing expense budgets for maintenance and improvement of process control systems
  • Develop and maintain automation standards, specifications, and maintenance plans
  • Own self‑development and initiative to understand site process control systems
  • Support audits and inspections as an SME for process control systems
  • Coach and train colleagues and stakeholders in relevant areas
  • Utilize appropriate cLEAN® tools within systematic problem solving, process improvement, and project management
  • Operate with a quality mindset focused on risk management and mitigation
  • Implement effective change management
  • Support corporate, PS, local IT, and local stakeholder initiatives and projects
  • Participate in the development of new SOPs, best practices, and maintenance procedures
  • Follow all safety and environmental requirements in performance of duties
  • Other accountabilities as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in an open office environment with potential frequent distraction
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited university (required)
  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of engineering experience in process‑based manufacturing, utility, or packaging systems (considered)
  • High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 9 years of engineering experience in process‑based manufacturing, utility, or packaging systems (considered)
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in process‑based manufacturing, utility, or packaging systems (required)
  • For logistics roles only:
    Warehouse automation equipment preferred (AAS, AGV, AMR, conveyor systems)
  • Knowledge of SAP EM, PLC, DCS/SCADA, MES, Oracle, MS SQL databases, Historian, and general controls; SAP EWM is a plus
  • Proven project management expertise in planning, organization, execution, follow‑up, and completion (required)
  • Ability to translate high‑level direction into actionable tasks using cLEAN® / Six Sigma methodologies (a plus)
