Automation OT Systems Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking an Automation OT Systems Engineer to join an innovative manufacturing organization supporting large-scale production operations for an onsite contract position based out of Clayton, NC. The Automation OT Systems Engineer will act as an internal technical liaison between plant operations and global IT/OT teams, focusing on system connectivity, troubleshooting, and integration across complex automated environments.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving connectivity and communication issues between automation equipment and enterprise systems.
• Partner with global IT/OT teams to support site-level configuration, system integration, and infrastructure alignment.
• Troubleshoot network performance, data flow, and interoperability challenges across multi-vendor production lines.
• Provide ongoing support for packaging and assembly equipment, ensuring optimal system functionality across finished product areas.
• Assist in commissioning and sustaining automated equipment by validating data exchange, system reliability, and operational readiness.

• 3–7 years of experience working within industrial automation, OT, or manufacturing IT environments
• Familiarity with multi-vendor packaging or manufacturing equipment such as Pester, Bausch & Stroebel, Fargo (Koerber), Dividella, Robomat, or Uhlmann
• Solid understanding of industrial networking concepts, including protocols, architecture, and security practices
• Experience integrating automation systems with enterprise IT infrastructure, including Active Directory environments
• Hands‑on exposure to PLCs, SCADA platforms, historians, or MES systems such as Factory Talk, PAS‑X, or Aveva PI

Salary Range: $155,000-$175,000/year (USD)
