Job Title: Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Salary: Competitive compensation package based on experience.
The Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the operation, monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of treatment systems and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining treatment processes, troubleshooting operational issues, and supporting startup and commissioning activities during plant construction and expansion projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and monitor treatment processes, equipment, and systems to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Perform routine inspections of pumps, motors, blowers, valves, tanks, chemical feed systems, and related equipment.
- Monitor plant performance through SCADA systems and other control interfaces.
- Collect operational data and maintain accurate logs, reports, and records.
- Conduct process sampling and testing as required.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and assist in identifying corrective actions.
- Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Respond to alarms, equipment failures, and process upsets in a timely manner.
- Assist with startup, testing, and commissioning activities for new equipment and treatment systems.
- Support development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, environmental regulations, and operating procedures.
- Participate in operator training and continuing education programs.
- Work collaboratively with project teams, engineers, contractors, and management to support plant operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Wastewater Operator License preferred (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating wastewater treatment facilities, water treatment facilities, industrial process systems, or similar operations preferred.
- Experience with pumps, motors, valves, blowers, chemical feed systems, and treatment processes preferred.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and computerized control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, technical manuals, and process diagrams.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
