The Opportunity

We are seeking a Research Officer to support high-impact biomedical research within the Knott Lab based in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute.

This role provides hands‑on technical and laboratory support to a Snow Medical funded research program focused on developing next‑generation molecular tools for RNA and DNA biomedicine, including CRISPR–Cas technologies. You will play a key role in the day‑to‑day operation of the laboratory, supporting researchers, students and projects while helping to maintain a safe, compliant and highly organised research environment.

Your Impact
  • Manage laboratory ordering, inventory and equipment maintenance
  • Support laboratory onboarding training and general safety practices
  • Maintain chemical inventories, risk assessments and standard operating procedures
  • Provide hands‑on research support using standard molecular biology techniques
  • Assist with routine protein expression and purification activities
  • Build strong working relationships with researchers, support teams and suppliers
  • Contribute to the smooth and compliant operation of a busy research laboratory
About You

You are an organised and detail‑oriented research professional who enjoys supporting discovery‑driven science in a collaborative environment. You are comfortable balancing technical tasks with administrative responsibilities and take pride in maintaining high laboratory standards.

  • A degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to follow protocols and work safely in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as cloning and sequencing preparation
  • Well‑developed communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Experience with bacterial protein expression and purification is desirable but not essential
